'Edit' by Jeanne Beker @ The Bay

We are so lucky to have guest blogger, Crystal Gibson and photographer, Jessica Blaine Smith today on The Hip & Urban Girl's Guide.  This amazing duo sat down with Jeanne Beker yesterday to discuss her new clothing line:
‘I’m an editor! I edit,’ she exclaims.
Jeanne Beker is quick to dismiss any inference to her as a designer. ‘I have, by no means, mastered the art of fashion design,’ she says. Something tells me that she is being incredibly modest; after all, she is face of Fashion Television, the editor-in-chief of FQ Magazine and quite frankly, the Anna Wintour of Canada.

We were invited by The Bay to preview Edit at their HQ where we were welcomed with many pieces from the F/W 2010 collection as well as mannequins clothed in Beker’s favourite pieces. There were two pillars draped with Edit’s F/W ads (Canadian model, Tara Gill is the face this season) and a large flat-screen TV with a reel from the ad campaign photo shoot. Bonnie Brooks, President and CEO of The Bay, appeared in the reel as well. Beker gushes about her friendship with Brooks, which began when Brooks was the editor-in-chief at Flare Magazine. Beker approached Brooks with the desire to contribute to The Bay and while The Bay was not looking to launch any private labels, she did like the idea of having Jeanne on board to ‘edit’ a brand. Within five months and much talk with manufacturers such as Levy Canada Fashion Co., Edit was born.

Jeanne Beker claims the brand is most suited for my Mom and Grandmother, I beg to differ. The collection is full of staple pieces that women of all ages should (and by should I mean must have). The LBD, the boyfriend blazer, the cape and the classic trousers are all priced between $79-195; quelle deal!

The release of Edit coincides with the 25th anniversary of Fashion Television, a monumental achievement for Beker. ‘What better time than now’, she muses. Jeanne will begin a national tour in October, making personal appearances at The Bay flagship stores in Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver and Calgary. She also has two books coming out next year. The last thing I asked her was to choose her favourite piece from the collection. ‘The little black dress of course! You see, I’m wearing it now!’

Make sure you stop by The Bay and sneak a peek of Edit by Jeanne Beker.  The line will hit 65 stores across Canada in mid-September.
