The crowd here likes to work hard, play hard and is serious about kicking back after a long day. The prices are actually pretty competitive for the area, considering what you would pay for a drink Downtown. Prosecco and wines by the glass start at $7. The menu ranges from gourmet pub fare, pastas, salads, naan flat breads, burgers and sandwiches. An 8 oz. Steak Frites will only set you back $19. The abundance of greenery and lush planters will make you forget you're in the middle of a concrete jungle. The seating is a mix of dining room and comfy lounge for cocktails. To avoid the crowds, we recommend visiting for lunch or checking out their Brunch menu on Sundays.
The Food - South of Temperance strives to use local, sustainable and organic products whenever possible. We ordered The Ahi Tuna Sandwich ($17, above) with roasted jalapeno aioli, apple crisps, avocado. Fries are included or you can upgrade to Sweet Potato Fries or Salad for $1. The tuna was perfectly cooked and fries were crispy - it was the perfect amount to avoid going into a midday food coma.
My selection was the Slow Braised Short Rib Panini ($14, above) with caramelized onions, aged cheddar cheese, horseradish aioli and fries. It was a very simple warm sandwich and the short rib was very flavourful. I would love to have seen it with a little green on the inside, but all in all - it was delicious.
We think South of Temperance is a win for Toronto's Patio Scene. Round-up a group of girlfriends and check out all the very good looking men in suits. It's definitely a fun night out.
