While scrambling for a last-minute hotel in Bologna, Italy last month - we came across this gem of a hotel chain: Una Hotels. The rooms are uber modern, extremely spacious with luxurious space-age looking bathrooms. We could not figure out exactly what the lit-up headboard in Japanese said (above), but it was the most original hotel room design we had seen so far in Italy. Now I'm not sure if it's a European thing, but there seems to be a trend in the single flat pillow with no head elevation in sight. Lucky for us, Una had a pillow menu where you could order a neck roll, body pillow, down-filled pillow or memory foam pillow.
The use of backlighting & under-lighting made the space look very soft and modern (above)
Una Hotels has 34 locations throughout Italy and combines great design with affordable pricing. Our room was around 120 Euros/night for two people with breakfast included. Internet is extra and expensive, which we found is the norm in most of Europe. Una Hotel Bologna was only a ten minute walk downtown and the city is full of delicious restaurants and great shopping.

The Italian chain has locations in major city centres like Florence, Rome and Venice. The metropolitan hotels operate under the Una Hotel brand. The Unaway Hotel brand is focused more along major motorways and airports. The most luxurious of all is the Una Resort brand, located on the coast or in the country.

We were super-impressed with the decor, service, style and price and just had to share. Check out the Una Hotel chain next time you're looking for a hotel in Italy.
