George - Spring/Summer 2011 Fashion Preview

On a blustery November afternoon, Wal-Mart let the sun shine in at The Richmond with a Spring / Summer 2011 preview for their house label, George.  I was definitely surprised by the high style factor of George's six themed capsules for spring. Here's a look at the key trends they featured:

Chambray & Ditsy Florals
I was immediately drawn to George's 'Chambray & Ditsy Florals' capsule. Filled with light denims and sweet floral prints, the cap sleeve blouses, flirty dresses, and flouncy skirts just sing spring. I'd toughen them up with a little military coat stolen from this season so I could wear them just a little bit earlier in the season.
Get Sporty
Sporty looks don't usually pull a girly girl like me, but George's "Get Sporty" capsule featured looks that were definitely more about fashion than function. Relaxed neutral pieces like the heather grey romper shown above were mixed with neon brights for a casual layered look.

Dress Up
George says maxi dresses are back and their 'Dress Up' capsule was evidence. The selection of frocks in basic black and tribal prints had varying hemlines. I did feel a bit like they had been seen before, but the price points make them a option when you need a few cheap and cheerful dresses to take on summer vacation.
Office Chic
The "Office Chic" capsule definitely surprised me the most. Office style usually means boring separates in neutral colours but George's office pieces were fresh and bright with great streamlined silhouettes. I'll definitely be scooping up the trench shown above but in a vibrant teal hue, and there is a fuchsia and black printed shell that's also got my name on it.

Swim Party

Wal-Mart has always been a great spot to snag inexpensive swimwear and cover-ups. This season the swimwear isn't just affordable, it's also haute! The 'Swim Party' capsule features surprisingly sexy swimwear including a metallic ruffle bikini and a sassy sheer zebra print tunic. I also love the lacy trim on the tunic featured here and would definitely layer it up to wear it beyond the beach.

Boudoir Baby
Last up, but first on is George's intimates capsule, "Boudoir Baby". Sweet printed bras and panties featured classic details like lace trim and satin bows with silky matching robes to boot. The cami and boy short combos and relaxed pajamas were as cute as they were comfy and  fabulous for lounging at home.
The Accessories
Accessories by George echoed the capsule themes making it easy to mix and match to pull together an effortless look. Earrings, shoes, hats, purses, scarves and more are available. My must haves include rubber wellies (sure, they're faux but who cares?), a black and white floppy hat for the beach, floral print flats, and a zebra print canvas tote with a touch of metallic sheen. Note: The zebra print portion is actually removable so you have the option of a plain tan tote when necessary.

Besides the amazing range of styles and looks featured, the most exciting element is that 99% of  the line rings in at under $25. I give George's Spring / Summer 2011 collection my socialite stamp of approval for hip and urban girls looking to mix a few easy basics or trendy elements into their wardrobes without breaking the bank.
