shedoesthecity.com contributor, Ellie, looking lovely for the eventWith so many VIPs on hand, The Room rolled out the red carpet and treated guests like royalty. Dapper gentlemen served a steady flow of champagne, spritzers, and wine on silver trays. Delicious canapés of smoked salmon, bison and ahi tuna circulated non-stop. Music was also on the menu with Bellosound providing the perfect sound vibes for the evening.
Of course, the star of the evening was Thakoon's Spring / Summer 2011 collection en route to The Room. The selected pieces are largely neutral and include gauzy sheers, wearable prints, and a chic nautical vibe. Interesting closures and immaculate draping mean that even pieces in basic black, are anything but boring. A few splashes of colour made their way into the mix via a gorgeous coral gown and muted patterns. My personal favourite was a sequined snakeskin print dress with silver hook and eye closures in unexpected places.
The highlight of the evening was my one-on-one chat with the extremely humble and very personable designer himself. Thakoon expressed his excitement at having such a large collection at The Room, his appreciation for the support The Room has given him, and was genuinely disappointed that his tight schedule left him no time to check out the Toronto scene. He was pretty pleased with the great service and short flight times via Porter Airlines, "it's faster than driving to Brooklyn" he joked. I'll take this as proof positive that this won't be the last time Toronto fashion lovers are in the company the very talented Thakoon Panichgul.
