Social House: Las Vegas

Vegas certainly has no shortage of fine dining but among my favourite upscale Asian fusion and sushi restaurants is Social House. Once locate in Treasure Island, its new home is now the second floor of Crystals in CityCenter - with an intimate main dining room adorned with dimly lit bird's nest lamps and an open-air dining terrace overlooking the first floor shopping area.

Social House is the culinary residence of executive chef Joe Elevado (protégé of Nobuyuki “Nobu” Matsuhisa and the “Japanese Iron Chef,” Masaharu Morimoto) - he is keeping many of his perfected dishes from the former location on the menu, while introducing new ones with exotic flavours from the Middle East, India and Philippines.

The menu boasts an extensive offering of raw/tartars, salads, hot dishes, rolls, scrumptious desserts and unique cocktails. It's best to come with a group of friends so you can benefit from the sharing plates. (Average cost per person is $60+ USD for dinner. Chef's Tasting menu also available for $95 USD per person.)

Our fave dishes off the menu:

BBQ Pork "Tocino" Baby Back Ribs - so succulent that they fall off the bone!

Citrus Miso Cod Lettuce Cups - crunchy cups of spicy perfection.

Sliced Hamachi and Tuna - dressed with the goodness of shallots, cilantro, Negi oil, soy and jalapenos.

Donuts with lychee centers - melts in your mouth followed by a fruity burst.
