Valentine's Day Contest with Nokia N8

The long awaited Nokia N8 marks the debut of a 12 MP camera with Carl Zeiss Optics. WIN ONE with The Hip and Urban Girl's Guide and bring Lights, Camera and HD Action into your life!

CLICK HERE to enter and don't forget to leave a comment below on how you would use the Nokia N8 to send your Valentine's.

Both hip + urban girls and guys can enter. You must complete both steps and we'll be choosing our winner based on the most fun and juicy comment - so don't be afraid to be creative! Contest closes at 11pm EST on Friday, February 18, 2011.*

Are you in the LDR Club (long distance relationship)? Nokia makes Valentine's a tad bit easier with these romance-inspired mobile apps found on Nokia’s online OVI Store.

  • Tongue-tied for the right words to seduce your lover? Simply use Nokia’s Love app to see what people on Twitter are talking about under the themes of love and romance. This app not only gives you romantic ideas, but also informs users of the top songs played on iTunes so that you can gift a top song to your Valentine.

  • Unleash your emotions and profess your love through poetry with a little help from Love Poems, a Nokia app that will impress your partner.

  • Adding a new dimension to blowing kisses, Kiss & Tell is a fun app that will choose a kiss for different moods and toss them to your beloved.

  • Why let distance prevent you from spicing up activity in the bedroom. Now you can keep the fire burning all night using the fring app for free video calls. Video content is up to the imagination.

  • Let’s face it – a call from your mother eager to come over and comfort your lonely heart is the last interruption you need during your virtual tryst. Not to worry, with the TrueCaller global caller ID app you can see who the caller is before you answer.

  • Schedules are hard to mesh from different time zones, but it’s easy to keep track of your honey’s day and stay in tune with his/her mood with Snaptu – the all-in-one app for staying social with your loved one, whether on Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, Picasa and more.

Nokia N8 is now available in Canada exclusively through Rogers.

* Winner will receive an unlocked Nokia N8 + a pretty pink case (approx value $475). Talk/text/data plan not included. Prize will be delivered to winner.

  1. My GF lives 4 hours away. I see her once a month!

We can Fring or Skype video call to plan our next getaway, then use Ovi Maps to add routes and spots we will stop off at. Geotag pictures of our travels together and maybe even put the HD camera to work during the evening. Wink wink, nudge nudge.

  2. I think the 2 greatest features of the N8(as far as my relationship is concerned) would have to be Ovi Maps and the camera.

I commute 4 hours every week to see my boyfriend, and Ovi Maps is always handy for finding my way to him, and then for our weekend adventures (like finding restaurants and cafes).

The camera would be an amazing improvement on my current phones camera, I convinced a friend of mine to by an N8 and he loves being able to record HD video and put it up on the big screen TV. I know if I had a N8, I would be making videos for my boyfriend during the week when I can't be with him, and video calling him with the front-facing camera. At the same time, it would be great to document our adventures on the weekend with, so that years from now we'll have plenty of high-res memories:)

Here's hoping I win! Yay N8! I promise to share it with my bf as well:)

  3. I would make a countdown-like operation: 7 days (lucky number) before S.Valentine, I would send her everyday a MMS with a photo of an important place/object of our relationship (where we met, for example, or our first gift), taken with N8 of course! :D
Then, on the 14th February, I would send her 1 last MMS (#8) with a photo of me right in front of her house door, so as soon as she opens it, I would tell her how much I love her.
    That's all :)

  4. I would LOVE to win this phone so that I could give it to my Valentine! He is so heartbroken over Nokia's decision to use WP7 OS and I know this would cheer him up.

AND he definitely needs a smartphone because I want some spicy 12MP pictures in return for all my boudoir photography!

  5. I would love to win the N8 so that I could give it to my Valentine! Ever since Nokia announced their partnership with Microsoft he's been pretty heartbroken because he's a big Nokia fanboy.

And my man needs a smartphone so that I can get some spicy 12MP pictures in return for all my boudoir photography!

  6. Realistically, I'm not currently in a relationship... but it doesn't mean that I don't have the most amazing valentines ever - my friends! However, now that I'm in university, many of them are overseas and all over the world, so with a N8, I could easily send them valentines using Love Poems apps, and possibly crazy/silly photos right to their phones! It would make it so much more personalised and fun! Meaning that all the single ladies out there can enjoy this V-day as much as the taken ones can :)

  7. I think I'd use the Nokia N8 to help eliminate ALL our gadgets that we tote around so that we could simply have more time for each other.

The camera could replace the digital SLR that we carry on our vacations. The GPS could replace ours - one that takes forever to "find us" to start navigating, so that we're not stressed when we get lost. The new social media apps would make it so we don't have to haul a netbook around to update our Facebook & Twitter accounts. The HD video camera would let us capture those special moments with our nieces & nephews for our parents - so that they can enjoy videos that they can see, instead of the grainy ones they get now! ...and being able to watch TV anywhere would make it so much better when she's sick, so she can watch her favourite shows at the doctor's office or in bed.

Yes, we can do most of these things with all the gadgets that we have now, but with a new Nokia N8, we'd only need one thing to carry around -- and that would give us the best thing -- more time with each other!

With the Nokia N8, we'll make every day Valentine's Day! :D

  8. EVERYDAY will be VALENTINES DAY! why delay what I want to say when I can do everything, exactly at that time in moment!! absolutely love and makes life that much more lovely with the NOKIA N8!! being on opposite sides of the world can make a pretty depressing situation but i'll be able to keep connect and send my love to all my friends, around the globe!!! -- absolutely want and need! why say no? :) hehe plus I'm always out and about everywhere doing work, never a time to sit & relax while surfing the net via laptop.

  9. Look out Ladies...When I win the Nokia N8,our date will be documented, edited and made into a keepsake, probably getting 1 Million hit's on You Tube :) and looks like we will never get lost anymore either. So If you ask me..."So where is all this leading"...I just WHIP out my Nokia and PRESTO, the GPS leads in 2 directions...My Place and Yours :)

  10. I would love to win the Nokia N8 because with it's 12MP camera (way superior than iPhone's 5MP camera) I can use it to take amazing pictures of food and send it right away to my boyfriend. Why? well to make him jealous and let him know what exactly he is missing out on when he chooses to go to basketball practice instead of having dinner with me! =D

  11. If I won the Nokia N8, I'd use it to find a new valentine, since my boyfriend was too "tired" to take me out for Valentine's Day.

  12. I'd love to win this phone, but I wouldn't give it to my valentine, I'd keep it for me, and he can have my old phone :-)

  13. I would love the Nokia phone, it would replace my sorely beaten up old Palm Trio which when I try to take pictures, often has that famous 'lens flare' so perhaps I could take pictures of me smiling without a shiny gold tooth and send it to my valentines!

  14. Nokia: connecting lovers! I'm into music so i would first of all compose something nice for her using loop app. Then since we live very far from each other, I would send her geo tagged pics during my 6 hours car travel but with 2 hours delay so when I arrive she just got a pic of 2 hours before :D then I would give her my n8 as a gift with the Loop melody on it and would say her how much I love her, together with something beautiful I would read on Love Poems app before the travel :D

  17. I’ve been with my boyfriend for a few years and a while ago he moved to Calgary (which is pretty far from Toronto) for a great job which we both agreed he couldn’t pass up. Since we both finished university not too long ago, we’re still trying to pay off all of our debt which leaves little room for flights back and forth (round trip is approx. 650) and results in us only seeing each other every 2-3 months.

At first it was really hard for us do long-distance but we learned to help overcome it with our phones. I always used to say “I wish you could see this” so instead we take pictures of everything we see and send them to each other. The camera on my crappy, old BlackBerry is barely working anymore and I really wish I had a phone like the Nokia N8 where I could send him amazing pictures. Also the video features would be amazing and I can’t wait to take videos of myself with messages that he can watch, so it’s as if I was there with him. For post-Valentines day I would film clips of his friends, family and me sending messages telling him they were thinking of him.

I would obviously have to download the fring app. For our first fring call I would set up a date and for our date mail him some booze, food, and a hot water bottle. I’ll set up the fireplace at my place, open a bottle of wine and video call him. Using the things I mailed him and having me on video will make him feel like we’re in the same room. This would have made for the perfect valentines date, instead of a failed skype call.

  19. Winning the Nokia N8 would be an epic improvement as I unfortunately have to carry around a phone that is so mid 2000’s. It definitely ruins an otherwise fabulous outfit when I have to reluctantly take it out and answer a call.

It would be brilliant to rock the Nokia N8 so I could:
    1. Feel like the latest romance junkie when I use the Love App to give me hot romance ideas!
    2. Embrace my inner Jane Austen and write some classic poetry with the help of Love Poems.
    3. Spread love and joy through blowing kisses to the masses with the assistance of Kiss & Tell
    4. Give a shout out to my global friends with the fring app and/or contact the Grams at the retirement home and hear about her latest Bingo event.
    5. Not have a panic attack at 3am when I realize through True Caller that it’s my teenage brother who’s had too much to drink and needs a taxi (aka me) to pick him up.
    6. Go all Martha Stewart and have a fully colour coordinated calendar schedule that makes me look ultra popular.

  20. Thank you all for entering the Nokia N8 Contest. There were so many fabulous entries which made it super tough to choose a winner! Congrats to Erika K! Your reasons for how you would use the N8 to spread your love was both compelling and hilarious - enjoy your new smartphone! :)
