Fit to Fly with JUKARI

Remember when you were a little girl in the jungle gym doing all sorts of balancing acts that gave Mom a heart attack? You were running around the playgrounds, having the time of your life and burning calories like crazy but you didn't even know it. Well Reebok and Cirque du Soleil has partnered up to make fitness fun again! It's call JUKARI, a one-of-a-kind new gym experience offered for the first time outside of Quebec!

On Saturday, I headed over to Liberty Village to check out this hour-long, full-body workout. All exercises are led by trained instructors and performed on a specially designed piece of equipment called the FlySet. Needless to say, the music was upbeat and awesome - of course, Cirque du Soleil themed.

I pranced around, did leaps in the air, twirled and spun... laughing AND totally forgetting I was at the gym... working out! JUKARI really is a unique fitness experience that gives the sensation of flying while strengthening and lengthening the body through cardio, strength, balance and core training. It suits all fitness levels and like yoga/palates, the exercises can be adjusted to increase the level of challenge.

Classes are now available at Kingwest Fitness on a drop-in basis. $10 for gym members and $20 for non-members. Please contact Jay at (416) 533-5464 for further details on package deals and scheduling.

Hanging out with Kevin Knott, owner of Kingwest Fitness.

JUKARI Fit to Fly gives women the feeling that they are performing while they’re working out. The moves and series in the class are inspired by positions and routines performed by Cirque du Soleil artists in their shows – but the workout itself is adaptable for all fitness levels” said Lyn Heward, Creative Director of the Reebok-Cirque du Soleil program.
