Top 5 Spring Style Essentials for Hip + Urban GUYS

Look at your man, now look at me.  Is he still wearing the same pair of jeans and t-shirt from university? If your hip + urban guy needs a makeover or if you're one of our fun guy readers, take note.  Our friends at Gotstyle, a Toronto menswear boutique, have put together your Top 5 Spring Style Essentials for Guys.

1) Knit s/s polo (John Smedley), $250
Get ready for sun and warm temperatures with a gray short sleeve polo from John Smedley. Small cable knit patterns decorates the front/back, and arms of the shirt. The placket and tips of the sleeve feature a soft blue contrast. The 100% Sea Island cotton is very lightweight and presents a flattering slim silhouette. Wear it with jeans or linen slacks, and you’re ready to hit the patio!

2) Summer blazer (Horst), $395
Be the envy of your friends this season with this new gray/brown seersucker blazer. Comfortable and easy to wash, seersucker fabric’s property causes it to mostly sit away from the skin allowing air to circulate. Horst’s blazer is cut slim, with traditional notched lapels and pockets to balance the bold pattern. If you had to choose only one item from this list, this blazer is it. Great for all occasions, versatile, and functional all spring/summer with your favourite button down and jeans.

3) Navy blazer (Without Prejudice), $595
Look good saving the world and keep your blazer clean with functioning surgeon’s cuffs! Without Prejudice’s new pinstripe navy blazer boasts surgeon cuffs and white tuxedo piping around the lapel. A 90/10 blend of cotton/silk makes for a light, breathable fabric suitable for spring and summer. Match the blazer with gray, beige, or khaki trousers to complete the look.

4) Knit tie (Haight & Ashbury), $65
One of the biggest trends from the Spring 2011 Menswear Shows is stripes. New for Haight & Ashbury’s spring collection is a lightweight, blue knit tie with yellow and white horizontal stripes. This knit tie is perfect for pairing with a button down shirt to achieve that smart collegiate look. It adds a casual and refreshingly textural element to any outfit (see above, paired with blazer).

5) Check pants (Stones), $195
Tired of wearing jeans? Stones’ new gray/black plaid pants with a hint of red are the perfect alternative. The cotton blend slim straight pants with a flat front lets you stay cool in the warmer months and look exceptional. These pants are suitable for wear with polos, button downs, blazers, or even a casual shirt. Take them from the golf course to a night out on the town! -- Duong Nguyen
