Trend to Try: Antique Chain Accessories

I’m a sucker for a great accessory, especially one that’s versatile and has the promise of a little staying power. My current crush? Antiqued chain accessories. Whether they’re up-cycled from old pieces or just mimic the burnished links of vintage chain, they’re a fabulous addition to your wardrobe right now. Their muted metallic tones work easily with whites, earth tones and neutrals, but they were also paired with brights on the runway so don’t be afraid to experiment.

If you’re not sure where to start, I’d pair a chunky chain necklace with a more feminine outfit to keep it from looking too girlish and I always add links to my pile of arm candy for a more edgy stacked bracelet effect. Earrings are not to be forgotten of course! Wear them with everything, but if they’re really dramatic, go for a bare neck.

I’ve managed to rustle up some well loved links from seasons past so I’m already working this trend but If you’re in search of your own missing links, here’s a few places to start the hunt:

Lover Fighter Chain Bracelet, $255

Crafted from chain recovered from Canada’s oldest metal foundry, this vintage steel link bracelet literally made me squeal with delight when I spied it at the spring One of a Kind show this past weekend. The detail on the cast coin clasp just adds to the old world charm and the leather strap adds to it's rustic appeal. Treasures like these are gorgeous, but not easy to come by in Toronto. This new collection from Joanna Baxter isn’t currently listed in any Toronto shops or sold online but the designer made fast notes as I gushed over her pieces and shared the Queen West and Forest Hill shops I can envision them in. If you can’t wait, I’d track her down via email. She's super nice so I’m sure she wouldn’t say no to a new customer.

Biko Jade Danglers, $72

If you want to wear your chains with a little bit of colour, I’d chase down a piece from Biko. Case in point; these blackened gold earrings with a vibrant jade stone. In my eyes, shades of green are one of the few bold colours that really can go with everything so use them as a neutral and pair them with that pretty frock in a candy coloured hue you've been dying to wear or anything else in your closet for that matter.

Brassy baubles at I Heart Accessories

Of course, if you’re a serial collector, you might just prefer an inexpensive treat. If that’s the case, hit up one of my favourite accessory shops in the city, I Heart Accessories. Always at the pulse of every trend, you’ll find romantic chain pieces like this blooming dark gold necklace along with earrings, bracelets and rings in a multitude of styles. Prices are generally under $30 for costume pieces, so go ahead and splurge.
