Hello From South Beach, Miami!

We are just wrapping up our visit to South Beach, Miami and will be posting lots of fun photos, travel tips, where to play and urban eats all this week! Make sure you check back soon to see what we have been up to between the sand and sun.

When To Go: If you're thinking of making a trip down here, do it! June is the start of low-season here and the rates drop dramatically. It's a good time to go because the heat is not as unbearable as it could be in July and August. You'll probably also score a sweet deal on a lux hotel room. It is however, the start of hurricane season, so check the weather before you go between June-November. The rest of the months are high-season here and drier.

Getting Here: The ride from Miami International Airport into the heart of South Beach is only 20-30 minutes and a $35 cab ride. Which means you can be at the beach by lunch. You can even fly into Fort Lauderdale if you find a cheaper flight worth the longer cab ride.

Love this place so far. We also have a Hip Getaway piece coming up on Key West, Florida and all the great things we love about this beach town. In the meantime, here's what we've been up to...

The Pool & Beach Scene
Getting Around: Rent a Deco Bike and explore the strip in style! Bonus points for being able to stay active while on vacay. Must. Negate. Pina Coladas. Make sure you take an oceanside bike ride along the paved promenade for some breathtaking views. Rentals are automated by credit card and are only $10 for 60 minutes or $14 for the day. Pick-up and drop-off at Deco Bike stations located all over Miami Beach. It's a fun and easy way to get the lay of the land and to get around.

Eating Non-Stop Seafood at Joe's Stone Crab
Don't work TOO hard on the beach...Hanging on the loungers at The South Beach Marriott, located in the Historic Art Deco District. Take a tour of all the interesting buildings on the very south end of Miami Beach, starting at second street and Ocean Avenue.
Lunch Spot + Lobby Tour: The outdoor patio at the Delano Hotel is where we gobbled up this Gourmet Cobb Salad ($19). The flavours were perfectly balanced with just the right amount of dressing. The traditional Cobb Salad is topped off with crab, shrimp, cheese and avocado. The lobby of the Delano is also a must-see, with dramatic oversized furniture, interesting design pieces and The Rose Bar for a late-night drink. If you can swing it, the Delano Hotel is also a great place to stay.

We'll be bringing your more travel tips and Miami highlights all week!

  1. Amazing! Too bad July is hurricane season :( BLahrgh...was planning to head out, based on your pics :) I wanna hear more about that hotel in key west! It seemed SUPER luxurious and nice. Dish! :)

  2. I'll have pics up from Key West next week! You have to check it out though: Casa Marina Resort - Waldorf Astoria. It's not even that expensive. Apparently it gets really hot in Miami for July/August. Maybe try January?
