Last week Swarovski previewed their fall winter 2011 collection, Wings of Fantasy. A lover of shiny things, I was definitely excited. I expected loads of bling, and they delivered. The collection featured tons of red carpet-worthy costume jewellery that included statement necklaces, bangles, bracelets, brooches, cocktail rings and of course, earrings. The matching sets, while gorgeous, are not quite my thing, but the collection featured jewelled shades of amethyst, teal, sapphire, citrine and ruby that could easily be mixed up for a unique look. I really got into trying on the collection. The Proudly Necklace made fast friends with my emerald blouse so it had to be photographed. I was also happy to snap Gail McInnes of Magnet Creative posing with some pieces that she played dress up in. She's wearing the Purple Red Ring, Pony Bracelet and Kiosque clutch along with her own accessories. The highlights, for me, were definitely in Swarovski's newer offerings. Their eyewear is a very retro chic, which I adore but I also loved the way they managed to create frames that were signature Swarovski even though they weren't bathed in crystals. There were frames cut like faceted crystal, coloured blue lenses with the faintest swarovski swan etched within, and of course a subtle hint of bling. The pair below are called Amazing. No coincidence.
Being a clutch collector, I was equally in love with their delicate evening bags. Who needs earrings when you've got an entire purse that sparkles? Perfect for blinding the paparazzi. Celebrities, take note.My absolute favourite? The Nirvana Petite Ring. The faceted coloured crystal gives off the best sparkle AND it comes is a rainbow of candy colours. I couldn't resist an posing with lemon and lime, though I'm pretty sure I tried them all on. Competing for the top spot in my heart, were all the fun layering pieces like this delicate rocker girl inspired capsule. I'm really not a skulls and cross bones lady, but for some reason, the Passenger Skull Wings pendant, jeans, a white tee, and leather jacket, could be my go to casual look for fall.
For the young, or young at heart, Swarovski has huge collaborations with Hello Kitty and Disney again this season. I was floored when I was introduced to a $10,000 Hello Kitty figurine, one of 85 produced in the entire world. I hope it wasn't wrong that I gave her a kiss before parting.
Swarovski is sold at Swarovski locally at retail stores in Eaton Centre, Yorkdale, Fairview Mall and Sherway Gardens, a standalone store on Bloor, in select boutiques and online. Hip urban girls can add a little Swarovski sparkle to their lives starting at about $50.
