Urban Eats @ Menchie's Frozen Yogurt, Toronto

I never understood why each topping at every other frozen yogurt chains cost me 50-75 cents each. I always felt a little ripped off when five raspberries and a sprinkle of shredded coconut made my yogurt a $1.50 more. I mean, we're not talking pepperoni on a pizza here. Enter Menchie's, a new frozen yogurt buffet that has made its way from California to Toronto. Menchie's has opened a very busy franchise in The Annex, which is perfect for U of T students and those craving something besides green tea ice cream after sushi.
The self-serve yogurt and topping buffet really lets you go wild. Many a time I have ended up with a bowl full of candy with just a squirt of yogurt on top. I'm eating with my eyes, I know. The flavour roster at Menchie's has changed every time I have gone in and you can even sample each in a little paper cup before you fully commit. Some of the interesting flavours include red velvet cake, peanut butter, cake batter, raspberry sorbet, pineapple tart and my favourite, original tart. It's close to that Pinkberry taste of a little sour, but sweet. I highly recommend it.
Once you squeeze one or swirl two yogurt flavours together, hit the gourmet topping bar. I love a big fruit salad on top with gummi bears, cheesecake bites, cookie dough, clodhoppers and coconut. For those looking for a full on sundae, squirt on some chocolate or caramel syrup and top with a maraschino cherry. Take your whole party in a bowl to the counter where Menchie's will weigh your creation and slap a price on it. My average Menchie's bowl has been around $6 with tax and I think it's because I pile on the heavy fruit.
Chocolate, nuts, candy, yogurt raisins and more

Sauciness
My usual is a big rainbow mess (above) and I'm suffering from weekly Menchie's cravings already. This place seriously rocks and you can be as generous with the toppings as you want. Just know you'll be the one paying for it. What do you usually get on your frozen yogurt? Check out Menchie's in Toronto or their other location in Vaughan. They are the first of many more franchises to come to Canada - we're sure of it.

  1. Lisa! Wendy! How funny to read this, since I only recently discovered Menchie's. Unfortunately, the circumstances were kind of terrible:
