hug is Going to California for the Summer!

In the past 12 months, I have been extremely lucky to have travelled to London, Italy, Germany for Oktoberfest, Punta Cana, Costa Rica, Miami, Key West and now we are off to....California!

No, I didn't win the lottery, my family is working class and hip + urban husband (huh?) is not loaded either.

So how did this all happen? We actually both work for ourselves and sold our three-bedroom home on the Danforth last year for condo living and a change of pace. The house was way too big for us and required a lot of maintenance (it was an 80 year-old home). We have squirrelled the money from the sale of the house into savings, until we are ready to buy a place again.
Santa Monica Pier
After making that decision, we decided to spend the next 12 months travelling to the destinations we have always wanted to visit. After cutting expenses, paying off our car, leasing a modest 620 square foot condo in St. Lawrence Market, selling off the bulk of our furniture and refraining from buying crap we didn't really need - we were all set to go. Just the money I saved from not having to renovate all the time, made a huge difference in what I could spend on travelling. You also can't really go crazy furnishing and decorating a 620 square foot box that's a rental.

California living and the West Coast culture has always been a dream of mine. So we're actually heading there for six weeks to fully soak up the experience. I'll be blogging away and attending The BlogHer Conference in San Diego. We also plan on exploring all the great eats, seafood shacks, shopping, farmers markets and sites while we're down there for the summer.

We'll be flying into San Francisco, picking up our car and driving along the gorgeous Highway One for the first time. Stops include: Santa Cruz, Carmel-by-the-Sea, Pebble Beach, Monterey, Santa Barbara, Malibu, Laguna Beach, Dana Point and San Diego. After the big road trip, we'll be settling down in a cute little beach bungalow in Venice. We were originally thinking Santa Monica, but that got expensive fast. Luckily, we have two beach cruiser bikes that come with the vacation rental to get around the neighbourhood in. It's definitely going to be a fun adventure.

Looking forward to fresh organic produce + California wines
Do you have any suggestions of places I should check out in California? Make sure you check-in starting at the end of July to follow along with us! xoxo --- Lisa

  1. I am currently working on some posts from my recent trip to Cali.

  2. When you're in Carmel-by-the-sea, visit Ajne - an awesome organic perfumery that is frequented by celebs like Jessica Biel and Kristin Bell. They also have a gorgeous showroom:

  3. I really like that bungalow you are going to be staying in. I can't wait to see more photos.
