Our Top 8 Summer Getaway Ideas

The Whiteface Lodge in Lake Placid
We can't believe it's almost July! Before the depressing back-to-school sales start and Halloween candy starts appearing on store shelves, we suggest you start planning a getaway.

Most of these destinations are drive-able or only a short plane ride away. Click on the links below for our suggestions on making the most of summer:

Lake Placid, New York - Hit up a local clambake, canoe or kayak one of the many lakes or carve out a spot on the beach to lay around in the sun. You can even bobsled in the summer, visit a microbrewery, go extreme mini-golfing or see a summer flick at a charming old movie theatre on Main Street. Lake Placid is my idea of summer in a small town, where life is simple and never too complicated.
Muskoka Vacay - Our favourite hot spot is the JW Marriott, a full-service resort for those like myself who remain cottage-less. We're talkin' poolside service, gourmet dinners, lounging by the lake, hiking on their trail system and yoga in the afternoon. It's the perfect Muskoka getaway where you don't have to do too much, someone else will do it for you.
Victoria, British Columbia - An oceanside city with hip vintage stores, killer seafood shacks, indie coffee shops and a laid-back island vibe. If you have time, catch a ferry down to Seattle for a little visit.
New York City - Sometimes you just need a weekend to re-energize, shop your little heart out and explore a city that's not your own. New York City is wonderful in the summertime, though a little bit hot and stinky. Air conditioning is plentiful and you won't run out of things to do. We recommend grabbing a picnic in Central Park or hitting up the flea market in Brooklyn.
Prince Edward Island - Lobster, lobster, lobster. What more can I say? Go on a seafood eating adventure road trip out to the East Coast. Visit Anne of Green Gables stuff and enjoy the sounds of the ocean. Cottage and vacation rentals are very affordable out here, especially when you compare them to what you would pay in Muskoka.
Langdon Hall, Cambridge - If you have just a quick weekend to relax, drive 90 minutes outside of Toronto and book yourself in for two nights at this country inn and spa. Read a book, sip some tea, breathe deeply, eat a fancy meal, get a massage and relax. Langdon Hall also has an outdoor pool to get your swim and sun on.
Collingwood, Ontario - One of the best outdoor water spas is only a two hour drive from Toronto. Le Scandinave Spa is what brings me back to Collingwood over and over again. I love the cute little village full of shops, restaurants and the boardwalk full of Muskoka chairs.
Prince Edward County + Picton, Ontario - Over 25+ wineries, breweries and a cider house now make up the foodie getaway that is Prince Edward County. Bring your bike, explore all the different vineyards, restaurants and Sandbanks Provincial Park.

Hope you do getaway and that we inspired you with a few ideas to get you going. Bon voyage!
