Urban Eats @ Cool Hand Luc, Toronto

FREE ICE CREAM! ...Did we get your attention? Well, the attention-grabbing tactic worked for Cool Hand Luc, the newly opened King West ice-creamery in Toronto.

Free ice cream was offered as part of its opening day, introducing Luc Essiambre and Shareef Shiaty's new concept to its neighbours.

Since that opening last month, Cool Hand Luc hasn't had any problem with finding actual paying customers and we're sure this Toronto heat wave has helped a little too.
We dropped by Cool Hand Luc for some relief from a hot day and found that with over 20 flavours and varieties of ice cream, frozen yogurt and sorbet, there are a plentitude of options for cooling off.

The sorbet options (in such flavours as tangerine, mango, lemon and raspberry) are dairy-free, gluten-free and vegan friendly.

But ice cream fans will have their sweet tooth satisfied with such inventive flavours as Moose Tracks (vanilla with peanut butter cups and fudge), Bear Claw (dark chocolate with chocolate-covered cashews and caramel), and Birthday Cake (icing-flavoured ice cream with rainbow chips and blue marshmallow sauce).

The ice creams come in one, two or three scoop cones or bowls, starting at $3.50. After making a decision on a flavour (our new favourite is Black Cherry Yogourt...mmm Bordeaux Cherries!) you can park a seat on the bench outside for some summer King West people watching. Cool Hand Luc is also open late until 2am on the weekends for some late night post-party cooling off. With its strategic location, thoughtful selection, unique and artful design; Cool Hand Luc is a welcome and much-needed addition to the King West neighbourhood.
