The Hip & Urban Girl's Guide was invited for a special sneak peek over at Gap Headquarters for a look at the 2011 Holiday Collection - in July. Yes! It's holiday preview season in the fashion world, which means walking in a zombie-like daze, trying to remember what winter felt like while sweating in your maxi dress. The team at Gap took it even one further step with pine trees throughout, holiday cookies and Christmas carols in the background. They are that good at building ambiance. So what did we see?
Chunky knits and holiday brights keep things fun and friendly when our faces are being bitten off by the cold in the gray of winter. I actually enjoy all the cheerfulness in the Old Navy Holiday Collection. It perks up the misery of cold and snow, adding a hit of colour to err-bodys black wool winter uniforms. Old Navy is all about keeping it functional, chic and affordable. We saw lots of layering of different textures and a hit of sparkle to carry you through cocktail hour.
Shiny jewel-toned vests rang in at under $50 with wool toggle coats and down jackets at $130 and $150 respectively. Lots of easy pieces to mix and match, I generally shop Old Navy to get all my basics (like scarves and mitts) because the prices are so good and they've really stepped it up in style.
The Gap 2011 Holiday Collection is all about understated, elegant chic. Not too loud and crazy like those Old Navy kids. Colours are clearly more subdued and do-able for work. Puffer jackets are going strong with a couple sexier knits and slouchier sweaters to choose from.
Love this off the shoulder sweater for holiday cocktailing (left) and the fingerless gloves make for easy iPhone usage. It's all perfectly paired with black skinny jeans and a pair of heels. We still can't frickin' believe that Christmas is just FOUR months away!!! The Holiday Collection hits Old Navy and Gap stores in November.
