We like great ideas and we like it even better when those ideas can become a reality. The Room For Thought contest from our friends at American Express Canada will help three people realize their potential with help from a few super mentors. The team has narrowed down the entries to just nine finalists with three from each category (travel, music, community) and you get to decide who will go home a winner:
Survivor Garden – Lisa Shanker
This idea is to start a therapeutic garden for people recovering from serious illness.
The Rupali Project – Jody Cason
This idea is to send used sewing machines to India to create prosperity for third world women.
Miracle on Your Street - Christina Parkhurst
This idea is to take a community Christmas Spirit Dinner nationally.
Preserving Time - Robert Postma
This idea is to photograph remote parts of Canada to document climate change.
Canadian Road Trip - Carl Fortier
This idea is to take the underprivileged on a cross-Canada road trip.
The Second Chance Travel Co-op - Evan Malach
This idea is to give underprivileged youth the chance to travel the world.
GHOST II - Andrew Huang
This idea is a music installation piece that lets users interact with music in a unique way.
Everyone’s Recording Studio - Sasha Spachak
This idea gives people free access to instruments and recording equipment.
Music Mentors - Nicole Vanderburg
This idea pairs high school music students with younger kids who can’t afford lessons
So now it’s up to you to judge the awesome factor in each category. Voting starts on the American Express Canada Facebook page from now until September 28th, 2011. You get to pick which idea you think is worthy of some serious mentorship. Helping the three winners realize their potential will be Survivorman, Les Stroud in the travel/adventure category, Emily Haines of Metric in the music category and Marc and Craig Kielburger in the community category.
