The event was lively and full of eager ladies just waiting in line to try on the unique garments. The fitting rooms where definitely the busiest spot in the boutique, which is always a good thing.
The stunner of the night had to be Woudenberg’s amazingly sky-high concrete platforms. This combination of concrete, wood, steel, and fabric really had me, along with everyone else in the boutique, wanting to ask more! Woudenberg, currently a 3rd year York University student, really had a young and fierce new outlook, which certainly helped her to stand out at the event. Also, she was the only designer who accompanied her garments with accessories, which were also made of concrete. I truly appreciated her innovative aesthetic and I definitely believe that she is ‘One to Watch’ in the Canadian design scene.
My second favorite of the night was Sin’s designs from the ‘Rachel Sin’- SS12 collection. She combined classic silhouettes with amazing silks and cottons. I was very happy to see something that looked as good as it felt- I simply loathe uncomfortable materials because I believe wearing garments should be a 360* experience. Plus, Miss Sin was a lovely conversationalist. She actually showed me her favorites of the collection and explained the European sizing system. Yup, she’s a doll with a knack for creating lovely Mad Men-esque designs. I was definitely hankering for her super feminine high-waist cotton skirts that create the most flattering curves ever!
Homegrown Boutique fashioned a beautiful event, which showcased the loveliest of lovely designs that would have any chic, sophisticated and playful woman wanting to add an addition to their wardrobe. Each garment could take you from day to night- and that’s definitely the cherry on an already sweet cupcake!
