What are your travel plans for 2012?
2011 was a big year of travel for Wendy and I. The two of us were rotating through a different destination every other month, ending up here and here.
It’s now a brand new year with a whole lot of possibility. The BEST thing you can do for yourself is to pull out your calendar and plan now. List all the places you REALLY want to travel to. Don’t book a trip to a place you only sort of want to visit because it’s cheap. Aim high and think big. Slot the potential time into your calendar and start planning trip-by-trip so you can vacation instead of having a default staycation.
Maybe this is the year you celebrate Oktoberfest in Munich, fly to Peru and hike Machu Picchu, drive down the coast in California or even take a cooking class and eat noodles in Thailand.

Wendy and I have partnered up with American Express Canada and their Gold Rewards Card because it lets us earn points faster. We then convert them into Aeroplan points at a 1:1 ratio, redeem them for merchandise or use the TripFlex option to pay off travel we have already completed. We charge everything that we possibly can to our cards so we can take our next vacation sooner. Earn two points for every dollar (that you are probably going to spend anyway) at grocery stores, gas stations, drug stores and travel outlets. Earn one point for all other purchases made on your card.
The first year of membership is free ($150 value) and I received a welcome bonus of 15,000 points once I charged my first $500 in purchases to my card within the first three months. It’s almost like getting a free round-trip ticket to NYC.
My travel plans for 2012 include visits to Tokyo, Hong Kong, Thailand, Australia and New York City. Of course, we’ll be bringing you lots of travel stories and ideas here on the blog.
So go ahead. Get inspired. What are your travels plans for 2012?
