Ok I have to admit, Activity-A-Week has fallen a bit to the wayside these last couple weeks as Wendy and I have been off travelling. But we're back in the saddle again as the Hip + Urban Girl team goes bowling in our latest attempt to live actively. Tamika (above) schooled us all with a bunch of strikes at the start of our first game at The Ballroom in downtown, Toronto.
Bowling burns around 150+ calories an hour, but it's also a great excuse to get out with your girlfriends and catch up between turns instead of staring blankly into an entree. To keep the momentum going I ordered the Cherry Cola (above, right), which surprisingly made me a better bowler. Toasting to a Wednesday with our travel writer Lisa Jackson (above, left).
The Ballroom is not the cheesy cosmic bowling place that your parents dragged you to in the yesteryear. Each group gets a cozy leather couch and the menu is full of inventive takes on cocktail classics and fancy comfort food like sliders, fried chicken and even corn dogs! I can't even picture what this place looked like formerly as a Montana's Restaurant. The second floor is more of a Sports Bar and was recently named the Official Molsan Canadian Hockey House with over 60 LCD TVs to catch the game on.
Daniela uses my 'follow the arrows' system and also bowls the slowest. ball. ever. But she still cleans up winning our second game.
Each lane fits a max of eight bowlers. Rates start from $17.50/per half hour Monday to Wednesday from 12-5 pm. Weekend rates are $32.50/30 minutes and evenings start from $25.00/30 minutes. Shoe rentals are $5.00 - wear socks, trust me. Make sure to call ahead first to reserve a lane.
