Urban Eats @ Hogtown Pub & Oysters

Look out Toronto, there’s a new hog in town! We attended the Grand Opening of Hogtown Pub & Oysters, located near College and Ossington.

I liked the buzzy vibe of this gastropub, with its cozy booths and friendly service. It felt like the Cheers of Little Italy – only with fresh and tasty eats. Ideal for drinks and apps after a long day at the office! And there’s always something new to try since the Chef regularly changes the menu.

Cherry and Brie Quesadilla
Way to kick off the party! One bite of Cherry and Brie Quesadilla summons a medley of savoury and sweet on the tongue – dried cherries and brie with foie gras torchon and smoked salt. Feeling ravenous? Try the full portion of Smoked Chicken and Ramp Quesadilla ($12) – tortillas stuffed with Swiss, cheddar, wild ramps and smoked chicken topped with roasted red pepper salsa and ramp aioli.
Potato and Asparagus Hash
Get ready for brunch on a spoon! I could’ve gobbled up a dozen of the Potato and Asparagus Hash ($4.50) – fingerling potato hash browns and Ontario asparagus with ramp pesto aioli. My pick of the night!

Oysters
Hogtown doesn’t cut corners when it comes to oysters – the kitchen serves ‘em up fresh from Rodney’s Oyster House. These tasty East Coast numbers were sweet, mineral-rich, and briny – simply perfection on the tongue!
Pulled Pork Dumplings
Sink your teeth into this! You gotta love the pulled pork in a crispy wonton with caramelized onion, accompanied with five year old cheddar and BBQ dip. It’s exactly what you need to fight off an impending hangover from many beers and wines.
Chicken and Cheese
We ended the night on a high note and bit into fried and smoked chicken, stuffed with blue mac and cheese with buffalo sauce. Great with a pint of Beau’s All Natural Beer.

Owner Darryl Brown pulls pints for his guests...

...while Chef Joshua Dalton creates delicacies such as Green Peppercorn Studded and Brie Stuffed Burger ($13), Hogtown Poutine Supreme ($12), and the Hogtown Veggie Crunch ($10) with Crispy Sundried Tomato and Cumin-scented Lentil and Arborio Rice Burger topped with House Aioli.

Hogtown’s menu is locally sourced with meats coming from all over Ontario and the seafood is sustainable. Go get your hog on!
