Urban Eats @ The Sultan's Tent, Toronto

Giddup girls, we’re going to Morocco! Well...sort of. But we did find our own Moroccan niche in the city at the Sultan’s Tent Summer Celebration Party.
With its stunning decor and live entertainment, this is the perfect place for a group dinner – especially birthdays and bachelorettes! Sultan’s Tent offers a Prix Fixe four-course Moroccan Feast with live belly dancing for $40/person. If you prefer to skip the show, make a reservation in Cafe Moroc – the Casablanca-style lounge with the same menu. They are open daily for lunch from Monday to Saturday from 11:30 am to 3:00 pm. Dinner from Monday to Sunday beginning at 5:00 pm.
Nothing says “luxury” like sitting on plush divans and sipping cocktails in lantern lit-tents, mesmerized by the art of belly dancing. How does she do that with her hips?
We started off with an order of Maftoul ($6) – hand rolled “Moroccan Cigars” in hot crispy pastry stuffed with a mixture of mildly spiced beef, cashews and raisins, and topped with chipotle aioli. It tasted like a tightly-wrapped spicy spring roll.
Next up, the Harira Soup ($6) – a hearty tomato based broth, with chickpeas, kidney beans, lentils and a blend of Moroccan spices.

Heck yes, the Chicken Marrakesh delivers ($17)! I loved the tender chicken marinated in honey-butter onions, prunes and dried apricots, served with a side of fluffy seasoned couscous. The couscous was EPIC!
There are lots of vegetarian-friendly dishes of sumptuous quality. I recommend the homemade Falafel Pita ($11) – fried to a golden brown stuffed in a warm pita with shredded lettuce, red onion, diced tomatoes mixed in a cucumber-yogurt sauce and drizzled with tahini. OMG, the Moroc Frites were out of this world! House cut, Yukon gold potatoes, seasoned with a mixture of sweet and savoury Moroccan spices.
I ended the feast with the Chocolate Oasis ($8) – a decadent blend of semi-sweet chocolate and butter, smothered in powdered sugar.

The Sultan’s Tent and Cafe Moroc have cooked up a tasty Summerlicious menu.  Check out the lunch ($15) and dinner menus ($25). But reserve ASAP!  This restaurant books up FAST during Summerlicious.
