A new study published just last week showed three strategies that helped keep the pounds off long term:
1. Monitor – Women who completed food journals regularly lost significantly more weight. Journaling helps keep you on target by being mindful everyday of what you are eating. Use your journal as a way to reflect on the day – what worked, what didn’t and other factors that may influence what you are eating (i.e. stress, sleep, exercise, hydration) – you may be surprised!2. Eat regularly! Women who skipped meals lost LESS weight. Eating regularly helps keep your metabolism strong during the day and prevents cravings and overeating at meal times. Eat every 3-5 hours.
3. Avoid restaurant meals – No matter how many healthy substitutions you make when eating out, the calories, sodium and fat in restaurant food is usually higher than what you would eat at home. So save your waistline (and your pocket book) and cut back on eating out.
There is no magic trick to weight loss, the bottom line: hard work and common sense pays off.
