My Summer Hair Makeover

Humidity, how I loathe thee! This summer, my hair has been one giant frizzball. So I was ready for a hair touch-up  when John Frieda’s Frizz-Ease Hair Care Salon Tour rolled into town.

THE BEFORE: With this scorching hot weather, I’ve been restraining my unruly mop in a ponytail almost every day. It was time to take action.

Luckily, Alain Larivée was on the scene. Alain is a top hair stylist based out of Montreal and a Creative Consultant for John Frieda. He’s been a hairstylist at the Gemini and Genie Awards and has handled the hair of celebs such as Nina Dobrev (Vampire Diaries), Sarah Polley and Karine Vanasse (Pan Am). Alain gave me a much-needed trim and some valuable tips:

What are the trends you’re seeing?

“Curls are in this year. I’m seeing a lot of women with beachy waves and care-free hair. It’s one way of dealing with the humidity!”

Want the look? Start with the Dream Curls Style Starting Shampoo to bring your curls to life. Then add Dream Curls Curl-Perfecting Spray to your damp hair. Scrunch small sections of hair to help create waves, and let your hair air dry naturally.

“Braids are all the rage this summer. It’s a versatile look that works for lounging on a patio or attending an upscale event. It looks so beautiful!”

Check out this link for a “recipe” on getting the Tousled Braid look.

Add serum to get shine and bounce

Alain smoothed my hair with Sheer Solution Lightweight Frizz Control. It was really lightweight and made my hair bouncy! The product fights frizz from the outside and moistures on the inside.
What advice do you have on selecting hair products?

“Read the labels. Most people don’t even bother! The products are designed to deal with specific hair challenges. Make sure it matches your hair type and the style you’re aiming to achieve. There’s no point in using John Frieda’s Sheer Blonde if you’re a brunette! The product is not going to work well for you.”
THE AFTER: Ta-Da! I’m transformed from a frizzball ponytail into sleek and chic! My hair was definitely thanking me for visiting.

Want to join the tour? Alain will be BACK in Toronto for hair touch ups and styling tips:
