TIFF Insider: The Swarovski Fashion Lounge

Hold onto your hats! The Hip + Urban Girl got the inside scoop on the Swarovski’s TIFF Fashion Lounge BEFORE its official opening to the celebrities. I was super excited to check out the Kingdom of Jewels Fall/Winter Catwalk Collection for 2012/2013.
This is where the magic happens – at a swanky suite in the brand new Shangri-La Hotel. During TIFF, celebs can borrow pieces from the Fashion Lounge to spruce up their red carpet outfits. Luckily, we got an exclusive sneak peak of the collection first.

Upon arrival, we were warmly greeted with champagne and canapés, courtesy of Swarovski and the Shangri-La. We ventured inside to take a closer look at the stunning jewelry and accessories on display.
This corset belt in Hematite leather was super sexy. It was re-embroidered with a python print Crystal mesh, chains, and a multitude of metallic, Siam, Amethyst, and Fuchsia pearls.
An Asian-inspired top embroidered with chains and crystals. It took 70 hours and 80,000 stones to create. Talk about attention to detail.
These colourful purses are one-of-kind items made in Paris and flown in just for TIFF. I was lucky enough to test drive one of these babies! Ladies, sorry to disappoint, but the colourful bags are not available for purchase anywhere. The good news – Swarovski carries the silver evening bags in store and online.

We were all wrapped up in this serpent-like necklace, embroidered with sequin and floret mesh and a cascade of chains and crystal stones in metallic, jet and fuchsia tones. It reminded me of Medusa’s hair. No wonder it took 120 hours and 18,000 stones to craft this masterpiece!
The highlight was definitely the Bond collection, a tribute to the 50th anniversary of the James Bond franchise. Special pieces were designed to celebrate classic scenes, artwork, and props in films. Here are our faves:
These sparkling octopus pendant and earrings immediately grabbed my eye. The design was inspired by the iconic logo for the Bond film Octopussy. Perfect for creating a unique and stylish look.
The necklace was mesmerizing with its swirl design and its strong lines. The Gun Barrel jewelry series was inspired by the artwork featured throughout the Bond films. Check out the movie poster for Living Daylights – see the resemblance?
For the girl who believes the world is not enough, we present the pièce de résistance. A magnificent necklace and crystal evening dress were worn by French actress Bérénice Marlohe – the newest Bond girl appearing in Skyfall (premiering in October 2012). Wowsers!
Keep your eyes peeled for these pieces on the TIFF red carpet. The Kingdom of Jewels Fall/Winter Catwalk Collection will be in select Swarovski stores as of mid-October 2012. Because crystals are a girl’s best friend, mais oui? --- Lisa Jackson
