Urban Eats @ The River Cafe - Calgary

Who really agrees to go on a weekend getaway to Calgary the day before a 2.5 month road trip? This girl, that's who. I'm not one to turn down an adventure so when Calgary & Alberta Tourism graciously offered to host a small group of fashion editors, bloggers and media for the weekend - I thought about how hectic it would be for about a split second and quickly replied YES before I could change my mind. Clearly, I love a challenge.

The occasion? The 10th Anniversary of local Calgary designer, Paul Hardy who kicked off a weekend of celebration with a special brunch at The River Cafe. The restaurant is uniquely located on an island in the middle of the Bow River with stunning view of trees, parkland and the city skyline on each side. The interior reminds me of a cozy log cabin with rustic furniture and a wood-burning fireplace.

After being greeted with mugs of warm apple cider, we were treated to a lunch of duck proscuitto salad, seared tuna, Alberta-raised bison with vegetables and pumpkin panna cotta. The food was so beautifully plated and delicious and the location was so unique, that I would definitely return again.

This was my very first visit to Calgary and definitely not my last. I knew the weather would be cold, but I didn't expect to be greeted by snow in October.
At the end of our brunch we stepped outside - the snow had stopped and the sun had come out. It was a dreamy moment and I realized how grateful I was to have such a cool opportunity be a part of my job.
We'll be sharing more from our trip to Calgary this week on the blog, so definitely stay tuned!
