We were thrilled to fly out to Calgary last month in support of Canadian designer Paul Hardy as he celebrated the 10th anniversary of his fashion career. I was joined by a lovely group of editors and fashion + lifestyle bloggers from Toronto including: Nelia Belkova, Sharon Ng Hayes, Anita Clarke and Casie Stewart (above) who shared in the fun.
It was my FIRST visit ever to Calgary and I was greeted with SNOW! It made for a lovely winter wonderland as we made our way over to The River Café for a champagne brunch that we wrote about here. We descended into a cloud of snowflakes after toasting Paul and explored downtown Calgary and The Core - a very slick mall with a Holt Renfrew attached. After a quick freshen up at the hotel, we were whisked away by limo bus for the big highlight of our trip.
The Paul Hardy Spring/Summer 2013 show kicked off around 8 PM accompanied by live music by county star, Paul Brandt as well as Greg Sczebel and members of The Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra. It was such a unique and brilliant way to showcase the best that Calgary has to offer.
According to Paul, “The 2013 Spring/Summer collection is inspired by a tale of an Amish girl who flees her colony, escaping to the big city where she gets caught up in the speak easy world of prohibition.” Hardy’s spring palette is mostly black and white, with accents of grey, hot orange and French pool blue. Make up was kept quite pale and for hair, there was an abundance of fishtail braids.
Paul's celebrity clientele has included Bette Midler, Carrie Fisher, Diane Kruger, Keshia Chanté, Alanis Morrisette, U2’s The Edge & Daniel Lanois, Kate Hudson, Goldie Hawn and Sarah McLachlan.
After the show, guests were hosted to a party featuring a few of Calgary’s top chefs & mixologists. Think homemade beef jerky, mini cones filled with local ice cream, baked treats and an oyster bar!
A pre-show VIP Meet & Greet Cocktail Party with Paul Hardy was hosted by Brett Wilson of Dragon’s Den, pictured here with one of the Real Housewives of Vancouver (in red).
A big thank you to Paul Hardy, Travel Alberta, Calgary Tourism and Leesa Butler of Divine Lab for our wonderful weekend away. We were thrilled to be a part of the celebration!
I also got the chance to catch up with fellow blogger, Mike Morrison of Mike's Bloggity Blog in Calgary. We had a fun time at brunch on top of the Calgary Tower and he took these fun shots. Thanks again for giving me the tour! I'm so glad we met when we were in Spain to see Coldplay. Until the next adventure!
