So the white stuff still isn't on the ground and I'm not complaining. Once the snow hits though, winter boots will become a staple in my wardrobe. Slush and ice just don't seem to be as easy to navigate in knee-high boots with 4" heels, no matter how great they look. The good news is, you don't have to sacrifice style when you choose functional footwear this season. I actually proved that first hand a few weeks go when I hosted a mini fashion show at The Spoke Club featuring Sorel Footwear styled with some of my favourite local designers. Winter chic, no?
Sorel styles shown from L - R: Cozy Joan Boot, $130, Joan of Arctic Wedge, $350 and Conquest Carly Boot, $280.
1. Natalia Boot in fuchsia, Pajar for Reitmans $100.
2. Edgy Wedgy in Chestnut, Cougar Boots $320.
3. Tamarack 2 in Black, Cougar Boots $180.
4. Genie Boot in Taupe, Pajar via Shop.ca $175.
5. Quilted Short Shearwater Boot in Navy, Sperry Top-Sider for J.Crew $172.
6. Skechers Monuments Chill Factor in Brown, Skechers via Browns Shoes $70 (sale).
Shopping / Styling Tips: With winter footwear, you really do get what you pay for so expect to invest at least $150 on a pair that will last a few seasons. To keep your winter ensemble from looking too sloppy, wear slim fit pants, skinny jeans or leggings that tuck nicely inside your boots. This also keeps your hems from getting soaked!
If you're concerned about skinny jeans on thicker thighs, try matching your pants to your boots for a long lean line. Lastly, don't be afraid to wear your favourite dress or skirt even with a thick soled boot. It still works. I promise!
