2012 has been a transformative year for The Hip + Urban Girl. We are so thankful for our readers who have almost doubled and also to our team of writers who work so hard to bring you interesting and fun food, travel and lifestyle stories. This has been a very BIG year for us and we thought it would be fun to look back at our biggest moments from 2012.
In January, we were 1 of 4 Canadian blogs asked to become American Express Ambassadors! Our first mission? Travel and report back on Winterlude from Ottawa, Canada. My biggest moment was skating along the Rideau Canal for the first time. It inspired me to keep skating all winter as a way to stay active and to really embrace the cold weather.
In February, in our ongoing mission to bring together fantastic women at unique networking events, we partnered up with Rent Frock Repeat and Fruili for an epic Fashion Swap. Hug Readers cleaned out their closets and walked away with some sweet loot.
In June, we threw one of the most unique events for our readers yet! We partnered up with Mott's Clamato and went to Hug Caesar School and learned how to make a proper Caesar while networking with new friends. After-school, all our guests were treated to a Sarah McLachlan & TSO concert at The Molson Amphitheatre in level 100 and 200 seats.
In August, we were invited by LOFT to join the Canadian LOFT Girls team along with other fun Toronto personalities and style bloggers. We enjoyed a lovely dinner with the NYC LOFT team to celebrate the opening of their first store in Canada. We were able to offer our input and ideas and share our love of this affordable and stylish collection with our readers. Photos above by George Pimentel.
In September I ran my very first 5K with a team of amazing girls in support of The Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation. Team Hug raised over $5000 at the CIBC Run for the Cure and I reached my personal goal of running in under 45 minutes and lost four pounds in the process! I went from couch to 5K runner and wrote about it here.
Later in the month, Wendy travelled to NYC to see The Killers live in-concert as part of Amex Unstaged! Being an Amex Ambassador definitely has its perks and Wendy made her 48 hours count - with dinner at Buddakan and drinks at the W Hotel on this whirlwind trip with American Express.
Also in September, Lisa was also featured in The Globe & Mail this year for travel blogging and social media! In October, we were asked by Jordin and Tamara Mimran to model and style pieces for the MOON Apparel Fall 2012 campaign. We said YES! It was a no-brainer. We love this wallet-friendly line and the fact that it's full of chic pieces that you can wear to the office and out for drinks with your girlfriend.
Later that month, I got the chance to travel to Calgary for the very first time to celebrate Paul Hardy's 10th Anniversary. Not only did I get to hang with my favourite style bloggers, I also had the chance to preview Paul Hardy's latest collection with an epic fashion show and live performance from Paul Brandt.
In December Style Editor, Tamika Auwai was jetting off to sunny Jamaica to scope out our latest Hip + Urban Girl's Travel Guide with Jamaica Tourism. We were slightly jealous once we saw photos of her daily yoga spot (above) and her invitation to meet the Prime Minister of Jamaica!
Thank you again for following along on our adventures. We promise to share even more ideas to get you inspired and thinking in 2013. Never in a million years did I think starting a fun blog for our friends and family would lead us to one-of-a-kind opportunities and the chance to interact and become friends with so many amazing women.
Happy New Year!
