On my recent trip to Whistler, BC - I had the pleasure of checking into this modern lodge located on the edge of Nita Lake. It was like an urban camp oasis with all the amenities you expect from a sleek boutique hotel rolled into a cozy ski chateau in the middle of the BC mountains. Nita Lake Lodge is a 77 room hotel that features a mix of studio units along with one and two bedroom suites. The hotel was recently completed in 2008 and everything still feels brand-spanking new. I actually came across it because it was ranked #2 on Tripadvisor and I was intrigued by this luxury property.
Now one thing to note, Nita Lake Lodge is not located in Whistler Village. It's actually just a five minute drive up the road and closer to Creekside Village, which is across the street. However, the hotel does offer a dedicated complimentary shuttle into the village, so you can leave the car back at the hotel and let someone else do the driving. I actually found our room to be very quiet as the hotel is located at the end of a residential street. Our unit featured a small kitchenette that tucked nicely away behind a set of closet doors. Inside we had access to a mini fridge, French press (with local coffee - a nice touch), sink, kettle and dishes. It was perfect for making a simple breakfast or reheating leftovers. If we had a unit with a full-kitchen I would have felt obligated to cook, but since Whistler is filled with so many great restaurants - I was sort of happy that I didn't.
For breakfast and lunch, Fix Cafe & Deli inside the hotel was our favourite option. The menu features fresh baked goods, coffee, breakfast sandwiches, yogurt and fresh fruit at incredibly reasonable prices. The cafe gets lots of natural light and is a great place to catch-up on emails first thing in the morning.
Each guestroom is equipped standard with a king-sized bed, gas fireplace, 40” LCD TV and DVD player, iPod docking station, complimentary internet, double soaker bathtub, heated slate floors in the bathroom. Our room also featured a large patio off of the bedroom.
The decor is modern in tone, without being too cold and lots of soft textures to grab on to. It's a place where you can really just cozy on into for the rest of the night without all the cottage kitsch. Just clean lines and no clutter - so you can think clearly and relax while on vacation.
After a long day of skiing, we really did look forward to soaking in one of the outdoor hot tubs. On the off days that you are not on the mountain, the hotel also features a fitness facility, daily yoga classes and a full-service spa so your body can recover off the slopes.
If you're looking for a quiet boutique hotel in Whistler with all the modern amenities, I would recommend checking into Nita Lake Lodge. It was actually nice to get away from the hustle and bustle of the village and fully unwind in the romance of the mountains.
