It's The Year Of The Snake!

Galaxy Hotel in Macau and Elements Shopping Mall in Kowloon

Festivities for the Chinese New Year are in full bloom in Hong Kong and Macau!

We start off the New Year with these themed sweets from Kisses Cupcakes on Gough Street in HK.

Man Mo Temple, Hong Kong

Then we spend the afternoon exploring the ancient Buddhist temples. Many come here from near and afar to pay respect to relatives who have passed away by burning joss paper or "spirit money" -- this ensures that the deceased has lots of good things in the afterlife. Fruits are left at the altar and the large hanging coils are incense!

Shopping along Queen's Road and the street markets in Central District for New Year gifts, trinkets and decorations.

If you were born in the year 1917, 1929, 1941, 1953, 1965, 1977, 1989, 2001 or 2013, then you are a snake and that means this will be an especially good 12 months for you. So live it up!

Here's a roundup of astrology sites where you can check out what this year holds for you. Happy New Year!
