Urban Eats @ Buonanotte Restaurant - Toronto

After celebrating a 20 year history in Montreal’s culinary and nightlife scene, Buonanotte has opened up shop in Toronto’s entertainment district in partnership with INK Entertainment. As wine and cocktails flowed under the glow of purplish pink lights, I wined and dined at the jam packed opening on January 22nd.

Boasting a passion for food, wine and entertainment, Buonanotte’s party showcased their classic Italian menu, imported wine selection and sleek newly designed space by Bukhari Design. The hip resto oozed sexiness and glamour with its white leather seating and an eye catching custom copper ceiling installation that produces a soft golden radiance and spans the whole ceiling.

Throughout the evening, endless plates of culinary delights were ushered out of the kitchen. I easily soaked up the ambience as I savoured the food. Behind the dishes is head chef, Davide Iannaci (from Gorgonzola, Italy) who studied at a culinary institute in Milan. With this experience and homemade family dishes passed down by his nonna and madre, his food brings a slice of tradition, homeliness and comfort amidst Buonanotte’s nightlife vibe.
Opening night featured a spread which offered plenty of dishes to sample such as a delicious mushroom risotto, pasta that is handmade in-house, an entire roasted pig, soft and incredibly fresh oven baked pizzas, a selection of Italian cured meats, fresh parmigiano reggiano and lovely feather light tiramisu. If you really want to experience what homemade truly tastes like, try the Gnocchi di Patate alla Bolognese (potato gnocchi with bolognese ragu). Made from scratch, and paired with a simple delectable tomato based ragu, the delicate gnocchi are so delicate they melt in your mouth.
Buonanotte is located at 19 Mercer Street and is open for lunch from 11:30am - 3:00pm Monday to Friday and for dinner from 5:00pm – 11:30pm Monday to Saturday. Live DJ’s will be spinning Wednesdays through Saturdays and bottle service is available staring at 11:30pm.
