I have to admit, I'm a bit of a geek for theme parks.
The more ridiculous, the more awesome in my mind. I had visited Disneyland in Anaheim, California before - but it was impossible to see everything in just one day. So a return visit was in order!
So when my friend Alison from University called me saying she would be visiting LA while I was spending some time there last year, we made a point as two women in our thirties to go to Disneyland. Yes, I know - a little bit ridiculous but who can resist a day away from our desks, laughing, screaming and eating junk food like we are 12 again? We were literally clinging on to each other as we dropped up and down on the Tower of Terror and had the chance to get fully caught up while waiting in line for a ride.
The best part? It was Alison's first visit to Disney anything and she was finally living her childhood dream. Since our visit was in December, Disneyland was decked out in Christmas galore and at the end of the fireworks display, they make it SNOW over the crowd on Main Street. Pretty damn magical, I think.
The most delicious thing at Disneyland after the churros? Hands-down it's this crazy 50s-inspired dessert, the Dole Whip Float in the all kinds of awesome category. It's a Disneyland specialty and available in Adventureland. Think pineapple soft-serve floated over pineapple juice with a cherry on top. Do you drink it with a straw or eat it with a spoon? It sounds gross right? No. You're wrong, it's delicious and I once had two in one day to prove my point. Which has me asking, why don't I have a pineapple soft-serve machine in my house???
If you do decide to go, grab a Park Hopper Pass which lets you hit both Disneyland proper and California Adventure for around $100. Dress warmly, wear comfortable shoes and don't miss the fireworks - they are some of the best you'll ever see. You're also probably OK to skip the parade, unless you have kids in tow.

Our other secret? Find out if the ride has a single rider line, which means you can split up and get on a ride in under 10 minutes in most cases. Just plan on meeting at the exit. The Fast Pass reservations system is a good thing to get hooked up with as soon as you arrive at the park too.

At the end of the day, we had such a blast that I would go back again if I could. The people at Disney put so much detail into everything that they do, you can help but stare in wonder - even as a grown adult. So let the emails go for a day and scream and laugh like you're a kid again.
