My $20 Wardrobe Secret

It's time to let you in on one of my biggest wardrobe secrets. Every once in a while, when I'm bored of everything in my closet, I indulge in a frugal little find. I treat myself to a fun and inexpensive accessory to play with for a while.

Accessories are the most affordable way to experiment with your style. Any basic ensemble is transformed with a few key pieces and you don't have to spend a fortune. I try to look for affordably priced independent labels like Shop for Jayu or My Femme Crush so that I can choose something a little more unique but also hit up retail chains not necessarily known for their accessories like Reitmans or Marks. You'd be surprised at what you can find and you'll have fewer style twins than if you pick up a popular piece at H&M or Joe Fresh.
Now Here's Your $20 Style Challenge:

1. Put on a very neutral outfit. This includes clothing in shades or combinations of black, white, navy, cream or brown.

2. Next, head to stores in your area to try on accessories with a very open mind.

3. Notice the trends you see in stores and and experiment with the styles that  speak to you.

4. Treat yourself to a piece (or two) and use it as your go-to accessory to refresh your existing wardrobe until you're ready to do a bigger splurge.

Remember, $20 is just a fun little guideline and you might find yourself spending a bit more. Just be sure it's on something you will actually ear more than once. Also, keep in mind that it's perfectly okay to repeat wearing the same accessories. I have a few statement necklaces I wear very frequently because I love how they look with everything!
