At check-in I was handed my key along with a warm chocolate chip cookie. I had a feeling already that this was going to be a great stay! But first things first, I needed to attend to some work emails and thankfully the hotel provided free wifi. Afterwards, I went onto do some hotel exploring which is a must for me with every stay. I wandered the halls and checked out a few of the amenities such as the library, laundry room (rare to see self-serve coin washers and dryers) and the fitness center. I snuck in a quick workout before dinner at their in-house restaurant, Carlton's Grill.
The next day we got up bright and early and had brunch at Amy's place. This place is a complete hole in the wall but the service is excellent, prices range from $8-12 for an entree and the menu is full of delicious traditional continental breakfast foods as well as Lebanese cuisine and delightful vegetarian/vegan options. This place was so good that I actually went back twice!
With our tummies full, we were ready to shop! As a Canadian I like to head to the states and load up on clothes, shoes and this time it was an even more special trip... as we were there to pickup essentials for our baby.
DoubleTree by Hilton is strategically located about a 15 minutes drive to the Walden Galleria Mall, home to plenty of popular shops including Lord & Taylor, one of my favourite American department stores. The Fashion Outlets is also nearby and here you can find deep discounts on everything from Nike to Kate Spade. I loaded up on sweaters at J Crew, a wallet from Kate Spade, hubby got his gear at Nike and we stocked up on the cutest onsies and other baby essentials from Carter's and Baby Gap. If you are there for baby shopping, Buy Buy Baby and Babies R Us are about a 15 mins drive away.
Now shopping can be exhausting so we headed back to our hotel to quickly freshen up and then had dinner at Merge Restaurant which was a convenient 10 mins walk from the hotel. They serve up healthy food in a cozy romantic setting with live music. We were quite tired after but if you still have energy, you can enjoy the nightlife in Allentown. Five blocks from the hotel is also the Anchor Bar, home of the Original Buffalo Chicken Wing.
Satisfied with the day's activities and our loot, we headed back to the hotel and had a restful sleep. Before I knew it my trip was over and we were on our back to Toronto. I suppose all good things come to an end... but not for long as I will definitely be back to Buffalo.
Tip: stay 2 nights in the US and you can bring back $800 CAD worth of items per person.
