I arrived in our nation's capital and enjoyed a lovely night dining under the stars with the Ford Team and fellow bloggers. The next day we woke up bright and early to a Scavenger Hunt Challenge! After a quick lesson from the Ford driving experts, we got into pairs, were handed the keys and got to take these new, fuel-efficient and stylish Ford Fiestas around the city and countryside of Ottawa and Gatineau.
Each team was given a basket with a guide book of directions and instructions. The goal was to drive around collecting consumables from various stops. The basket of produce will then be donated to Second Harvest. Love it when companies pair up fun events with good causes!
Our first stop was Parkdale Market where we gathered an assortment of corn, eggplant, red peppers, zucchinis and tomatoes. I got totally sidetracked checking out the other yummy homemade treats and had to be pulled away from the market by my partner. Luckily the Fiesta is compact and quick when you hit the pedal so I was able to safely and efficiently zip through traffic in downtown Ottawa to our next stop.
Following our noses, we sniffed our way to the Happy Goat Coffee Company. Tucked away on a side street, it's hard to miss this quaint little shop as you can smell the floral and dark-roasted aromas from afar. Here we picked up a bag of sweet and spicy Ethiopia Limu blend.
Then we hit up the Byward Market in the historic Rideau neighbourhood to shop for honey, potatoes, peaches and berries. Can you tell I just love outdoor markets!
Oops made a wrong turn and almost got lost... but thanks to their handy Navigation System that combines GPS with 3D mapping and voice-guided directions, we were back on track in no time!
The next part of the scavenger hunt was my favourite. Leaving the city behind, we ventured out to the beautiful countryside where it gave me the opportunity to really put the Fiesta to the test. We're talking about gravel roads, sharp turns and dodging the occasional wildlife. I was truly impressed with the performance and suspension of the car and how it effortlessly handled the different terrains.
We stopped at the Boucanerie Chelsea Smokehouse to sample some of the most delicious smoked seafood ever. If you are in the area, you must check them out!
Our last stop was Juniper Organic Farm owned and operated by a couple who traded in city living in Toronto for greener pastures. Here we added our final items to our basket.
And yes, there was plenty of trunk space to bring our haul back.
Whew! What a fun day! But that's not all... at night Ford outdid themselves by throwing us a Fiesta Party complete with carnival games, prizes, a buffet dinner, cotton candy and fancy umbrella cocktails.
Thanks again to the fabulous Ford Team for coordinating such a great event!
