Brazilian Inspired Cuisine at The Junction Kitchen & Bar

By: Alison Silveira

World Cup Fever has hit The Junction Kitchen & Bar, a great new place to take in a game, relax with a drink and feast on Brazilian fare. The restaurant is expansive and bright. With 15 television screens and over 2,600 square feet, it can accommodate 170 guests. The patio features flat screen televisions for outdoor game viewing and customers can play a game of billiards at the back of the restaurant.

I was eager to sample items from the Brazilian inspired menu that is featured during the 2014 FIFA World Cup, as I had never previously eaten Brazilian cuisine. I was pleasantly surprised with the menu offerings that Chef Renee Horrocks created. The grilled vegetable and meat platter ($12) is fit for a queen, with delicious sausages, jalapeno havarti and bread, and an assortment of delicious vegetables on a bed of arugula and mixed greens. It is recommended that this dish be shared, as it is very filling.

The beet and orange salad ($9) makes for a great combination of citrus flavour paired with the sweetness of the beets.
The main course consisted of a generous portion of grilled sea salt crusted flank steak with chimichurri sauce ($15) accompanied by fries and grilled pineapple.
For dessert, I enjoyed the rich and indulgent Brazilian flan ($8), crème caramel.

Co-owner Kurt Wenzel says, “We want The Junction Kitchen & Bar to be the go to place for fans to enjoy good food, cheer on their favourite team, and share their passion with their fellow supporters.” The night belonged to Brazil and I toasted their win by sipping a refreshing caipirinha ($7) cocktail. The national drink of Brazil features cachaça, a spirit made from the juice of sugar cane. While you nibble on bar snacks and wash them down with a drink, you can enjoy live music every Thursday and Friday. Powerful ballads and popular hits filled the room courtesy of the talented band, Nine Times. The Junction Kitchen & Bar serves hearty comfort food with a twist that has crowds roaring and drinks flowing at the most popular sporting event of the year.
