Girlfriends' Getaway at Deerhurst Resort, Muskoka

Looking to get away with the girls this summer? I mean really get away? Ditch the city noise but keep the entertainment, adventure and pampered life with a trip to Deerhurst Resort.

Located in the picturesque Muskoka region, just 2 hours north of Toronto, neighbouring the charming town of Huntsville and around the corner from Algonquin Park, I often thought of  Deerhurst Resort for golf and family vacations. After spending a weekend on the 760 acre property, I quickly came to the decision that this, forevermore, is how intend to do cottage country and next time I'm bringing my ladies along with me.

Accommodations: Deerhurst offers 425 guest rooms with a variety of amenities including standard hotel rooms, junior suites as well and one, two and three bedroom condo units complete with spacious living quarters and balconies. I had the pleasure of staying in the Summit Lodge Suites which would suit a close knit group of 4 gals quite fine as the one bedroom configuration included 2 very plush double beds and plenty of pillows.

Cuisine: I sampled one of the 4 on-site restaurants which all offer menus expertly created by Chef David Bakker to feature seasonal, regional fare through Deerhurst's Savour Muskoka Program. The 72 hour Braised Bison Short Rib with Tonka Bean and Sweet Potato Mash at Eclipse was literally melt in your mouth and full of flavour and the dessert menu is filled with so many options you'll want to order a few to share. Sunday Brunch, also at Eclipse, was a leisurely affair featuring everything from Eggs Benny to Smoked Trout and Applewood Sausages and an array of salads to choose from. Of course, you can always dine-in if you choose a condo suite or hop into town to mix things up.
Activities: I was literally blown away with how much there was to do at Deerhurst. Beach bums can just bask in the sun or get active with water sports like wakeboarding or water skiing, thrill seekers can go treetop trekking and indoor rock climbing and animal lovers can saddle up for horseback riding and then there's the spa...

Spa: Yes, Deerhurst is also home to Shizen Spa offering relaxing treatments from the not so basic pedicure (which includes you own take home polish) all the way to their exclusive Intraceuticals Oxygen Infusion Treatments. This is just a very small list of of the things you can do on-site and then of course, you can head into Huntsville for quaint small town shopping. The community also seems to be super active so it's possible you might happen upon a local festival or fair in town.
Nightlife: After dark things do get a little quieter at Deerhurst but karaoke and / or dance party lovers will have a blast at the Resorts' live stage show, Decades. Hosted in the Waterhouse Show Room, a small cast of super talented singers and dancers perform greatest hits from the 50s to present day in a performance that features something like 300 costume changes and featured the one and only Shania Twain way back in the day. I was super skeptical at first but the show is really well done and seriously, you can't help but dance and sing along and get really into it. It wraps pretty early at 10 PM but you can head to the Lobby Bar from there for a night cap to keep the party going.

Thank you to Deerhurst for hosting me at their Spring Girlfriends' Getaway! I definitely plan to be back soon and highly recommend you check it out too.
