Cook Well, Eat Well With Prepd

By Shari Archinoff

I love to cook, but like most busy professionals, I find it difficult to find the time. Fortunately, there’s a new local Toronto company called Prepd that offers a solution to this problem. Prepd is a subscription service that delivers 3 meal kits a week directly to your home. Each kit includes a recipe and pre-portioned ingredients you need to make a fresh, delicious meal.

I recently got to try out two recipes – Kung Pao Chicken Lettuce Wraps, and Tuscan Penne and Chickpeas. The first thing I noticed about the recipes was how clear and well organized they are. You’re given pictures of each ingredient included in the kit so there’s no confusion as to what you’re working with, as well as a (very short) list of staple ingredients and utensils not included.

The instructions provide you with a step-by-step guide of how to prepare the meal, along with a time break down to let you know how long you’ll need to complete each section. There are pictures for visual clues to make sure you’re on the right track. I’ve personally spent a fair amount of time in the kitchen, but I’m confident that even novice cooks would be successful with these kits!

I’m not sure I ever would have attempted these recipes without the kit due to the number of ingredients involved. However, since I didn’t have to worry about buying a bunch of stuff I might never use again, or the tedious measuring process, I was able to enjoy all the fun of cooking without the hassle.

Another bonus of the meal kit, as opposed to pre-cooked delivery meals, is that you can tailor each recipe to fit your specific tastes by leaving out ingredients or adjusting the spice level, which is great if you have picky eaters in your house. The best part, though, was when I got to sit down to a homemade, healthy meal.
