Win This! Ste. Anne's Spa Getaway

By Wendy Kam Marcy

Flying off to a tropical resort or making the 3+ hours trek to cottage country isn't always an option. So next time you need a breather, Ste. Anne's Spa located in Grafton, is only a 90 mins drive from downtown Toronto. Far enough to escape the concrete jungle but still close enough for a relaxing getaway that won't break the bank.

Ste. Anne's Spa is an adults only all-inclusive day and overnight spa resort. My recent stay over the Labour Day long weekend was romantic and relaxing enough to compete with any luxurious holiday getaway.

Upon arrival, we checked into the Main Inn which was tastefully furnished with both antiques that serve as reminders of the past and refreshing modern touches. If you ever wanted to stay in "a castle" here's your chance! The original wing features 8 rooms decked out with hard wood and exposed brick for that old-world feel. If contemporary is more your style, book one of the newer wing's 6 rooms.

Since I was vacationing with my family and we needed the extra space and privacy, we stayed in one of 6 unique cottages that was a hop, skip and a jump away from the Main Inn.

The Doll's House, our home for the night reminded me of something out of The Hobbit. There was two spacious bedrooms, 2 bathrooms fully stocked with toiletries from their Ste. Anne's Skin Nourishment line, a kitchenette and two cozy sitting areas. It was homely, charming and absolutely adorable!

After a warm welcome and a quick tour of the facilities, it was tea time! We made our way to the beautiful patio overlooking 400 acres of scenic, rolling countryside... ahhhh the sunshine and fresh air instantly put my mind and body at ease.

We indulged in savoury sweets, finger sandwiches and fine teas. If you are a tea-lover like myself, you’ll get a kick out of the vast selection... my favourite was the Rainforest Chai, a spicy fruity blend of deliciousness.

Decisions, decisions! After tea, we had to decide whether we wanted to lounge poolside or retreat to our cottage for some very important mid-day activities - reading and napping (who could resist the king-size bed that's as comfy as it looks)!

To wind down the evening, hubbie and I took advantage of the eucalyptus steam room, fieldstone grotto (think hot tub and plunge pool!) and treated ourselves to hot stone massages (a necessity for any relaxing getaway). Next time I'll love to try their nourishing Milk & Sesame Wrap. Click here for the full spa menu.

We didn't have time to check out the gym facilities but for those who want to work up a sweat, there is one a mile jog away or you can request a shuttle to drop you off. There is also hiking/snowshoe trails, horse-riding, tennis courts and golfing for the outdoor enthusiasts.

Yoga junkies will appreciate the Group Wellness Classes offered each morning and for those looking for some quiet time to clear their mind, book yourself into a meditation session.

After our spa treatment, we dragged our limp-as-noodle bodies into the dining room. The nice part about Ste. Anne's is that it's an all inclusive spa - and they take care of you real well. Each guest receives a $120 spa credit and your 3 meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner) plus afternoon tea is included in your stay.

The food here is fantastic! The country cuisine menu offers a wide variety of healthy and wholesome foods to satisfy any palette - including those who are vegetarian/vegan and gluten-free. There are easily half a dozen choices for each starter, entree and dessert. You can truly indulge without the guilt! (Tip: There is currently no liquor being served here so remember to BYOB. Cheers!)

It's all about comfort so dining in slippers and bathrobes is highly encouraged!

Before calling it a night, we spotted a few hammocks scattered on the lawn - perfect for cuddling under the stars! My stay was short and sweet but with all the activities and most importantly, some quiet alone time with Geoff (thanks to my parents for babysitting!), I felt like I was gone much longer than a weekend. I left feeling well relaxed, recharged and ready to take on the big city again!

This place truly is a zen oasis - you have to experience it for yourself! So we're giving away a Spa Day for one lucky winner and their guest! This includes a 3 course lunch, afternoon tea, $120 in spa and wellness allowance and full use of the facility (valued at $440).

There is nothing I would rather do this fall than watch the leaves change into brilliant hues of orange, crimson and gold, while I lounge around in a spa robe and slippers, enjoying a locally sourced meal on Ste. 23. I'd love to visit Ste. Anne's this fall - I've been in the summer with girlfriends and enjoyed the pool, an in the winter with my mom and loved how cozy it felt. But I've been meaning to go back with my boyfriend to enjoy the romantic side of Ste. Anne's, and the fall is a perfect time to enjoy the fall colours and go for a walk on the grounds. And maybe pumpkin-inspired menu items?
