Food Diary: Los Angeles, California

By: Lisa Ng

Since moving to LA, I've found a few favourites that I recommend to people over and over again. So I thought I would share a few of my must-eats that I've recently discovered - perfect for your next trip to Los Angeles, California!

True Food Kitchen - First things first. A green juice is practically an art form in this city and one of my favourite places to grab lunch or meet for a group dinner is True Food Kitchen inside Santa Monica Place. The restaurant vast, so you're never waiting too long for seating and everything is made from scratch fresh.

Make sure to try the chopped kale salad, the baked spaghetti squash, the lemon yogurt ice cream dessert, the crudites appetizer and of course, a green juice!

Plan Check - Next up, is Plan Check Kitchen on Sawtelle for their famous burgers. I always go for the cheeseburger with ketchup fruit leather (so unique!). Their pickles are all made in-house, they have a huge beer list - but I always end up with a Mexican coke when I'm eating a burger.
Don't miss out on the sweet potato waffle fries either. Happy Hour is also a great time to visit with $2 off draft and wells and $4 house wine. I will also be back for the Jidori Fried Chicken which is also a very popular and well-recommended item!

The Chestnut Club - When I'm contemplating drinks, I like to meet friends at The Chestnut Club in Santa Monica. Yes, the cocktails are a bit pricey - but the craftsmanship that goes into each drink is something I truly admire. Hit it up like a local on a weeknight. It tends to get really busy on weekends - so just a heads-up!
I love the long leather banquettes and the super comfy chesterfield booths to snuggle up in. Do note that there is a dress code so leave the shorts, flip-flops and caps at home.

Sprinkles Ice Cream + Cookies - When you're ready for dessert, head over to Beverly Hills for spinkles ice cream topped with a cupcake!!! Yes. It's the BEST of both worlds. Don't miss out on this very special Sprinkles Sundae.
If you're still looking for a few more cupcakes to take home, head a couple doors down to the Sprinkles Cupcake Shop or try using the Cupcake ATM for your after-hours sugar fix. The Red Velvet is by far one of their best cupcake flavours. The cream cheese icing just makes it.

Where are your favourite places to eat in LA?
