Mother's Day Gift Guide

By Wendy Kam Marcy

BLACKS Photo Gifts

Be it on your graduation, your big wedding day, a special holiday or that unforgettable mother-daughter trip... mom was there front and center and you have the moments captured on your phone or camera. Now is the time to turn those digital memories into acrylic wall art, a photo book, a cozy collage blanket and even a "magic" coffee mug (your image is unveiled when hot liquid is poured in)! BLACKS can help you create the perfect gift for Mom that’s unique, personal and straight from the heart. (Starting at $15)

I recently attended an event hosted by BLACKS and was really impressed with the things you can now do with photos beyond just printing them. Here's the lovely canvas art they created for my family.

Saje 100% Soy Wax Candle

These candles will bring an uplifting scent and energizing glow to any room in Mom's home. As a bonus, the glass containers is made from reclaimed discarded bottles and repurposed into a lovely candle holders. After the candle has burned down, it can be further repurposed as a plant vase. Comes in 3 natural scents and I love that these candles burn evenly and are long lasting. ($17 small / $24 large)

Philips Sonicare DiamondClean

This may not be the first gift idea that comes to mind when shopping for Mom but I think it's the most practical. After all, she does have to brush her teeth so the Sonicare is definitely something she will appreciate and come to love using everyday.

I've owned an Oral B electric toothbrush for many years and don't really have any complaints. Recently I switched over to the Sonicare and immediately noticed a big difference. The higher frequency brush strokes not only cleaned my teeth but I felt like they were freshly "polished"... it's that same smooth clean feeling you get after visiting the dentist for a good cleaning. There are 5 modes from sensitive to whitening so you can customize how your pearly whites are cared for. I also love, love, love that you can conveniently charge the brush in a glass and can even take it with you traveling as it has it's own handy rechargeable case. It comes in a pretty pink edition as well as black and white. ($199)

Mother's Day Brunch

These restaurants have cooked up the perfect way to show Mommy Dearest how much you care and love spending time with her. Enjoy a delicious prix-fixe brunch at Casa Loma ($55), Drake Hotel ($36), Cafe Boulud ($70), Mildred Temple's Kitchen ($27.50) or Jublilee Queen Cruise ($55).

Odysseo by Cavalia

Take Mom out to the White Big Top to see Odysseo by Cavalia. A theatrical experience not to be missed featuring equestrian arts, acrobatics and high-tech theatrical effects. 63 horses take center stage for a spectacular Cirque du Soleil inspired performance. I was very impressed with the choreography and the beautiful way the trainers communicated with the horses - like they were making a game out of the routines. There are also 45 musicians, acrobats, aerialists, and dancers all coming together to create this magical world. (Tickets start at $44.50)

When I think of Pandora I think charms and bracelets but they also carry a beautiful line of rings. I can appreciate that these rings are simple with intricate designs and look great paired with casual or more elegant outfits. They come in different precious metals including white and rose gold, diamond and sterling silver. Mom can wear as a single ring or mix & match and stack them to reflect her unique style. (Starting from $45)
