How I'm Going to #OwnIt This Holiday Season

The holidays are here and I’m slowly getting obsessed with that number again.

I weigh myself about once a week to make sure that I stay on track with my exercise and eating. So here’s the deal, I’m not going to tie my happiness to that number on the scale any more and I’ll tell you why. 

It’s JUST a number – it should not define you and it does not mean you are a failure as a human being if you are not the perfect size.


This year, I’m going to own it. I’m not going to let the number on the scale control me. Yes, it will likely go up a little over the holidays, but as long as I can be flexible and not beat myself up over not being the perfect size – I can truly just enjoy life and the holidays.

Does it mean I’m going to go crazy eating every shortbread cookie in sight? 

No. I think it really is all about balance and ditching that all or nothing mentality. Have that cookie, indulge, enjoy and really savour it. I’m all about small changes and picking and choosing what I want to truly indulge in. I’m going to own it, ditch the doubt; stop obsessing over the scale and the guilt behind every morsel during the holidays.


I want to feel confident and strong – which is why I’ve signed up for two 5K races over the holidays. My first one is at the start of December and the second one is just after the New Year! The point for me is to feel great, de-stress and not get hung up on that number. I've also been replacing my usual snack of chips and cookies with Special K protein bars for more energy to fuel my workouts.

Instead, I want to be grateful that I can jump, move, run, walk – it’s amazing all the things my body can do and I’m grateful to be healthy.
