Winter Beauty Favourites

By: Lisa Ng

Winter is here! I have a whole new round-up of Beauty Favourites to share with you this month. Here are the best things to come across my desk as of late:

Lipidol Skincare Oils - Start with a dry face and massage Lipidol Cleansing Face Oil all over. The make-up will bind to the oil. Add a bit of water and let the cleansing oil emulsify and then rinse. A 125 ml bottle will only run you $8.97 – which is steal because I’ve bought designer cleansing oils for almost four times that price!

The formula is gentle and brought to you from the makers of Bio-Oil. The Lipidol collection also includes a shower oil, after-shower body oil, after-shave oil and face oil. Lipidol is available at Wal-Mart.

Maybelline Color Blur – I wasn’t sure what to make of these bright and creamy matte lip pencils with a built-in smudger from Maybelline. Color Blur actually grew on me. The deep red and the fuschia were the most flattering on me and they look best for a night out and a full face of make-up.

I used the pencil to fill in most of lip and then the smudger to give it a fuller finish. Definitely loved the cool pen packaging as well and good, deep pigmentation.

Essie Polishes – Essie has this pretty collection of nail polishes. I love the deep reds like Chocolate Cakes + Scarlett O’Hara and the sparkly gold called Golden Nuggets for an accent nail to bring some festive-ness to any holiday outfit. I’ve used other nail polishes before, but I love Essie for its consistency and high quality colours. Definitely a December beauty favourite!

Eyeshadow Palette – If you’re looking to add an eyeshadow palette to your collection that covers all your bases, check out Pur Minerals Secret Crush which features 8 decadent colours made with minerals. I love the progression from light to dark and the mix of shimmer to dramatic. The palette is great for blending and for taking your look from day to night. Long-lasting and with good pigmentation.

BB Cream – I’ve been wearing Burberry Fresh Glow BB Cream all month and I’ve been loving the texture and coverage I get from this product. It’s strong enough that it covers up any imperfections and looks very smooth and clean. I wear Medium No. 2, add a bit of concealer under my eyes and finishing with a bit of powder. I also like that there’s an SPF 20 built in and moisturizes my skin at the same time. A definite November beauty favourite!
