3 Things That Have Made Me Happier & Healthier

This is a sponsored post with #HappyRenewYear Sears.

Did you make new year’s resolutions this year? I didn’t.

Rather than making another set of promises that I was eventually going to break, I decided to introduce 3 things into my life to help me become a more well-balanced, active and healthy person in 2016.

1) Short but intense workouts 3x a week

One of the main reasons why I can’t stick to a gym routine is because it’s boooring! Occasionally I would catch a show like The Bachelor that made my 30 mins on the treadmill slightly more entertaining but otherwise, it was simply rotating through the same equipment over and over again.

So I did some research and tested out a few apps. The Nike+ Training Club App is the one that kept me most engaged and was the best fit for my hectic schedule. There are 30 mins Circuit Challenges and the Tabata Toned Workout can be done in 12 mins. These sessions are short and sweet but work up a whole lot of sweat!

My workout time in now cut in a half but I feel like I’m still achieving the same results. Another bonus is that these workouts can be done at home with a set of dumbbells, a medicine ball, skipping rope, yoga ball and eco mat. Equipment I was easily able to purchase online at Sears.

2) Creating A Healthy Kitchen

I invested in a quality cold-pressed juicer and have incorporated juicing into my weekly family affair.

Each Saturday, my husband and I take our little boy to the Evergreen Brickworks Farmers’ Market and load up on fruits and veggies to make juices. My current favorite concoction is carrot, ginger + pineapple. I call it the “Winter Zinger” because it’s packed with vitamin C to help boost the immune system during cold and flu season.

Fuelling and keeping our bodies well hydrated is so important all year round so I also make a point to drink lots of water.

This 32 oz Nalgene is not the fanciest looking but I like it the best because it’s the most practical water bottle and only cost $18! The large opening on the wide-mouth bottles easily accommodates ice cubes, lemon slices and is super easy to clean. Plus it keeps track of just how much liquids you consume.

3) Rewarding myself with fun and frivolous things!

The key to rewards is having a prize that is indulgent. It doesn’t always need to be lavish but just enough to give you that extra little push and have something to look forward to.

I decided to reward myself every time I completed 8 workout sessions - so I usually claim a prize every 3 weeks. A few things I’ve treated myself to was a massage + facial at my favourite spa, allowing myself to do nothing but Netflix & chill for 3 hours while savouring a pint of $11 Pleasantville (Vegan) Ice Cream, and my latest reward was some new workout gear from the very comfortable and affordable Pure NRG Athletics line.

These are 3 simple yet very effective and commit-worthy things I’ve incorporated into my routine. What goals did you set this year to live a happier and healthier life?
